Now that the holiday season is here, I want to take a moment to discuss Post Holiday Blues, before we actually get to the post holiday part of the season.

You should be aware that after the holidays wind down and the season's social energy slows, a return to your daily routines might feel anticlimactic, leading to what’s known as Post Holiday Blues. This is a somewhat common experience that can cause you to feel melancholy or even irritable.

The holidays demand a lot emotionally and physically due to juggling gatherings, family expectations, and oftentimes financial stress. The contrast between holiday excitement and routine life can be intense, making the return to normal feel challenging.

If these feelings are overly intense or persistent (for longer than a few weeks), consider reaching out to a care provider to assess if you are actually experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder or Depression.

An important concept is to remember to give yourself permission to miss the holidays. It is okay to be sad the holidays are over even as you work towards finding joy in the quieter, everyday moments of the new year.
